Staying Hydrated While Traveling

Walking, pushing a stroller, fighting with a toddler, and rushing from one tourist spot to another can spell disaster for keeping your family hydrated.

Our summer is jam-packed with travel. I'm not complaining or anything, cause this girl loves to be on the go. But I don't want a repeat of the summer my daughter almost had a heat stroke while pounding the pavement in LA! So staying hydrated while traveling is my primary goal!

I am all about being prepared when it comes to traveling. Ok, I lied, I am all about being prepared in all areas of my life. But for the sake of this post, I am sticking to being prepared for travel.

I have been planning three trips for this summer, and have come up with some pretty simple ideas on how to stay hydrated on the go.

When I found out we were going to LA for a fabric buying trip, I knew I would order our Poland Spring ORIGIN Natural Spring Water to be delivered. I am not messing around with a thirsty toddler. And I am not driving around to find a grocery with healthy options after flying all day!

Staying hydrated and eating healthy while traveling tops my list of priorities at the moment. If you’ve been following me since I posted my mom goals in January, then you know that intentional living is my new thing.

1/ PREPARE IN ADVANCE

  • Plan what to pack. (If you're traveling with a toddler, check this out!)
  • Plan your “Ideal” itinerary
  • Order Healthy Snacks and Drinks online to be delivered to your Hotel/Airbnb
  • List of Local Contact numbers

The only way you will manage to keep your family healthy during travel is to be prepared. Winging it leads to disaster and no one has time for that!

2/ Order Online

Girl, staying hydrated while traveling is key to staying healthy while hustling around a new city!

For our trip to LA with 2 toddlers, we ordered our Poland Spring Origin water to be delivered to our Airbnb.

We ordered our bottled water, Poland Spring Origin 100% natural spring water from walmart.com, the night before we arrived. This particular spring water is nationally available on walmart.com but not available to buy in stores. This water is 100% natural spring water from Maine, the most refreshing place on earth! (Maine is on my bucket list!)

If you haven't thought of using online grocery ordering for vacations than hold the phones, cause the convenience of online ordering is top-notch when it comes to planning your travel needs.

Who wants to spend a day traveling, only to have to find a grocery store and lug groceries into your vacation rental? Not me, I want to plan my meals and have the groceries come to me.

You want to get to bed, so you can get up, grab some water, coffee, food, and then spend a day on the beach (or mountains…wherever!)

Back to our Poland Spring ORIGIN, our water was ready and waiting outside our Airbnb!

Girl, we had natural spring water from Maine, ready and available, which is pretty amazing as the busyness of traveling left us all thirsty. (Not to mention screaming toddlers and tired feet!)

What we love most about this particular bottled water:

  • It's perfectly balanced and contains natural electrolytes for a refreshing Taste.
  • 100% food-grade recycled plastic (how cool is that?), and it is 100% recyclable.
  • It's sent overnight from Walmart.com which is uber convenient.

3/ Water Bottles for Everyone

I highly recommend throwing some reusable water bottles into your suitcase. Plan to take one for each person. We prefer to pour our bottles of water into a water bottle that keeps the water cold for the entire day.

You could also order these from walmart.com to be delivered to your hotel or Airbnb if you are flying and worried about the weight of your bags. (This is my problem every time!)

If you are taking a road trip than I would keep them in the car for the drive (Be sure to order your Poland Spring water before the trip and have some delivered at your destination as well!)

Having your own bottle/cup is very handy.

4/ Cold or Frozen

When you get to where you are staying, put your Poland Spring Origin water into the freezer or fridge and get them nice and cold.

When you get up for the day's adventure, pour the cold ones into each water bottle. Throw the frozen bottles into a bag and use them throughout the day as they defrost.

Cold refreshing water makes all the difference when you get hot and cranky! Remember staying hydrated while traveling is our goal! The crisp fresh taste of the Poland Spring Origin water was exactly what we needed trekking around LA!

5/ Label Your Bottles

I always label our bottles when all the kids were young, even if the bottles were all different colors. This helped me to remember which bottle goes to who. Listen, this momma can't remember who loved red, or who hated green.

Nowadays, I don't need labels as much…deep sigh, so sad!

One easy method for labeling the bottles is to use stickers for identification. We buy alphabet stickers from a cheap discount store and throw each person's sticker onto their bottles. (or passports or bags or whatever!)

For example, Greyson's has a G and Mine has a T for Trish! Easy peasy!

6/ Tracking Water Consumption

Ok, keeping track of who has been drinking their water should be a game when it comes to your kids. If yours are like mine were, it would become a healthy competition.

I started to use a paper in my purse to have the kids cross off their daily cups of water! I know you can download an app for this, but when you have 7 kids, that's a lot of apps. So we used paper and pen.

I'm just that kind of mom.
